Cycling Holidays - what to take
What to take

There is no restriction on the amount of luggage you may bring (within reason). We would be grateful though if you could make sure that the bags you wish to have transported will fasten properly

  • Helmet. For hygiene reasons we do not supply helmets.
  • Biking clothes (see below)
  • Water bottle for your bike or you might prefer to buy bottled water out there.
  • Suntan cream
  • Camera
  • Beach Towels and swim suits
What to wear when biking

It is entirely up to you what you wear when you go cycling but if you haven’t been on a cycling holiday before, the following comments may prove helpful.

  • Feet – footwear should be stiff-soled and have good treads. This might be specialist cycling shoes or a good pair of trainers.
  • Shorts – although almost any pair of shorts will be fine, proper cycling shorts with padded liners are the most comfortable and well worth buying. If you don’t like Lycra then you may find padded touring shorts more acceptable.
  • Legs – if its cold then a pair of tracksuit bottoms or running tights are ideal. Lycra tights are especially good as they don’t absorb water. Jeans are not a good idea as the seams can cause discomfort and they get very clammy when wet.
  • Top – its best to work on the layer principle so that you can adjust your heat by removing or adding layers. Choose lighter garments to give freedom of movement. Bright colours are preferable for safety reasons. A windproof top is essential to give some protection from rain and because the wind can reduce your temperature very quickly.
  • Head – we recommend you wear a safety helmet when cycling.
  • Eyes – sunglasses or cycling glasses will help to keep dust and flies out of your eyes.

Preparation

We generally recommend our customers spend a little time in the saddle, if possible, beforehand. This is more an effort to minimise the effect of saddle soreness rather than an attempt to get fit.
