This tour combines nature and culture – Austria at its best! Starting in Salzburg, the hometown of Mozart, you cycle through the famous Salzkammergut, a region full of beauty with sparkling lakes set against a backdrop of wonderful mountains, and into the valley of the River Danube.
An old disused railway track leads you out of Salzburg to Lake Mondsee and soon you reach the soft hills of the Attergau and Lake Attersee. Passing through the Weissenbachtal valley to the banks of Lake Traunsee its then by train or boat to Gmunden, the former centre for the old salt-mining towns. Continuing on you will reach the Danube valley with its romantic castles, pretty villages and vineyards and onto a bike path that leads you alongside the majestic river. You can enjoy a visit to the monastery of St Florian and Enns, the oldest town of Austria.
Further on you will reach the famous Wachau where you can visit the unique Benedictine monastery of Melk or simply try the local wine at one of the “Heurigen” (wine tavern). Passing the medieval town of Krems, you will cycle to Tulin and then the final stretch is by train where the tour comes to a climax in the magical city of Vienna where there are so many places to visit awaiting you.
