This tour covers the final 167 miles of the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of St James, from Astorga to Santiago de la Compostela in Galicia. Since medieval times, pilgrims have travelled this route to vist the burial site of St James, one of the 12 Apostles. These days people make the journey for many reasons, only some of which are spiritual, and most conclude that it was a moving experience and rewarding in ways they did not anticipate.
The undulating route takes in plains, mountains, rivers and forests but the mostly rural scenery is punctuated with interesting towns and villages all of which are ideal for a break and wonder round.
The hotels use are conveniently positioned near the trail and tend to be unique, mostly family-run properties, full of character and offering very comfortable accommodation for the night.
