Individual arrival in the city of Passau in the state of Bavaria, situated on the Austrian border at the confluence of the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz rivers. At 12.00 o’clock you can listen to an organ concert, (except on Sundays and public holidays) on the largest church organ of the world, in the cathedral.
You collect your bikes at the service centre and then you leave Passau and ride through Engelhartszell to Schlögen. The famous “Schlögener Schlinge” (Great Loop) offers a wonderful view on the surrounding countryside.
The route to Linz passes Aschach and Wilhering. A tour in the city of Linz through the recently renovated historic centre gives you an idea of the sights that the capital of Upper Austria has to offer.
In the afternoon you arrive at “Burg Clam”, one of the best preserved castles in the country. Your destination, Grein, is dominated by the picturesque castle of “Greinburg”.
Passing through the “Strudengau” you arrive at Ybbs, former trading centre on the Danube. The route continues, passing Maria Taferl, to Melk with its imposing Benedictine monastery.
Today you travel through the famous “Wachau” with its vineyards, fruit plantations and romantic villages. The medieval city centre of Krems is your destination today and is a pleasant city in which to stroll. Krems is one of the oldest centres of inhabitation on the Danube, occupied since the early stone age.
By train you will depart from this UNESCO World Cultural Heritage region. After arriving in Tulln, you will ride your bike for the last time on this tour directly through the Vienna Woods (Wiener Wald) and pass through “The Gates of Vienna”. Along the way don’t forget to stop in and visit the impressive monastery in Klosterneuburg and then continue on to “The City of Music”: Vienna.
Some say that one must personally experience this great city. A few of the must-sees include the famous Naschmarkt (international food/goods market), the City Opera, the Ringstrasse, (a beautiful boulevard with imposing buildings which bear witness to ancient times) and of course
the gorgeous imperial castle Schönbrunn. Train ride back to Passau (included) or extension in Vienna. It is also possible to return to Passau by ship, for a supplement.
