Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival in Dijon

Arrival in the beautiful town of Dijon, the ancient capital of Burgundy. Dijon is an architecturally rich city offering far more than mustard. Take a quiet walk through the lime- and chestnut-lined paths of Cours du Parc, a green space dating back to 1671, and don't forget to sample the region's gastronomic delights. In the afternoon there is a welcome meeting.

Day 2:
Dijon to Crugey, 27 miles (43km)

Leaving the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy by Lake Kir, along the Burgundy Canal, you begin your journey through the wildest part, the Valley Ouche. Today you will also pass the Castle Barbirey, the Abbaye de la Bussiere ... Overnight and dinner in a charming bed and breakfast in Crugey.

Day 3:
Crugey - Clamerey, 21 miles (33km)

Your cycling itinerary will lead you through the valley of Ouche. You will find the heart of a rather feudal area, with Chateauneuf-en-Auxois and Commarin, two imposing castles. Then you enter the country of Auxois. You will discover its treasures: the Vaults of Pouilly (here the Canal is underground), the Castle Eguilly, the Collegiate Church of St Thibault. Dinner and overnight stay in a Guest House along the Canal.

Day 4:
Clamerey to Montbard, 22 miles (35km)

You will continue your route following the waterside with many places to visit alongside the canal or nearby, including: Bussy-Rabutin, Semur-en-Auxois, Flavigny sur Ozerain, Alésia,.... At the end of the day, if you don’t arrive too late in Montbard, visit the Cistercian Abbey of Fontenay - a peaceful place to end the day.

Day 5:
Montbard to Ancy-le-Franc, 16 miles (26km)

On your way to Ancy-le-Franc you will discover La Grande Forge de Buffon, and other hidden treasures: windmills, washhouses, churches, châteaux… in Aisy, Rougemont, Nuits… You will also come across barges on the water. You can visit Ancy-le-Franc and its Château when you arrive in the village.

Day 6:
Ancy-le-Franc to Tonnerre, 13 miles (20km)

You will carry on following the towpaths alongside the Burgundy Canal until you reach Tonnerre for the night. On your way you will come to the beautiful Valley of the Abbey of Quincy and the Valley of Armançon unless you decide to venture off and explore the magnificent Renaissance Château of Tanlay. When you get to Tonnerre, you can visit the town and its famous Fosse Dionne turned into a beautiful washhouse.

Day 7:
Tonnere - Auxerre, 21 miles (35km)

You will leave the towpaths alongside the Burgundy Canal to go first to Chablis, known for its white wines, and then by small countryside roads you will reach Auxerre. Overnight stay in Auxerre

Day 8:
Departure

After breakfast its time to head for home on on to your next adventure.
