Prague “The Golden City” offers various possibilities for spending time. A visit to one of the famous museums, Prague Castle or the magnificent bridges, will be a great way to start your holiday.
The historic centre is ideal for exploring on foot and the friendly atmosphere in the shops, cafes and wine bars make it a delightful place to visit. Standing astride the River Vltava, the highlights include the sixteen arches of the 14th century Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square, the irregular cobbled square with its famous Astronomical Clock. Moreover, during a walking tour you will discover the Old and Lesser Towns, the Baroque church of St. Nicholas, and Wencelas Square. The square is one of Prague’s most historic, was named in 1848, and contains the statue of St Wenceslas on horseback.
Along the river Vltava you will cycle to Melnik – the centre of the Bohemian wine route. From Melnik castle you can enjoy a wonderful view to the spot there the river Elbe meets the river Vltava.
From Melnik to Litomerice you will pass Terezin – the former Jewish Ghetto. Litomerice with its superb houses is the political and cultural centre of the region.
The route today will go via Usti and Labem to Decin. On the way you will pass the Castle Strekov.
Between Decin and Bad Schandau you will see the impressive sandstone massif in the region of Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland. Bad Schandau is a well known health resort in the heart of the Saxon Switzerland.
Through the towering Elbe Sandstone Massif and delightful meadows along the riverbank, you will cycle to Dresden, the “Florence of the Elbe”.
Dresden is in the heart of Saxony on the banks of the Elbe river. Although first mentioned as a city in 1206, it was during the 18th century that Dresden became an important cultural centre, the “Florence of the Elbe”. Major reconstructions have now restored the Baroque past of the Saxon capital to its former splendour and the city boasts magnificent collections of fine and decorative arts in various palaces and museums. A visit to Theatre Square, the Cathedral, Zwinger Palace, the Royal Palace, the Procession of Princess, the Church of Our Lady, Brühl Terrace and Old Market Square will all impress.
Departure from Dresden after breakfast.
