Arrival in Pezinok where you will stay for two nights. A transfer by taxi from Bratislava airport to Pezinok can be arranged, if required. The journey time is about 45 minutes by taxi but can also be reached easily by train from Bratislava.
In the evening you can go out for a drink to one of the local traditional wine cellars, restaurants or bars.
After breakfast your bikes will be ready for you to head off towards the village of Senkvice. Cycling through this village you will carry on cycling to the village of Vistuk, where just before entering the village you will see a small lake on your left and in the distance the fascinating castle of Red Rock. This castle is one of the most impressive castles in Slovakia. Heading back towards Pezinok you will cycle through Modra, now famous for its winemaking, where you can stop for a moment to enjoy the unspoilt main town square.
Back in Pezinok in the evening you can enjoy some winetasting at the Slovak National Wine cellars for more information.
In the morning you will cycle through vineyards before disappearing into the cover of the Carpathian forests. There is an uphill section through the forests which is the hard part of the trip. However, once you reach the top of the hill you will enjoy a wonderful ride down hill passing mountain streams and rocky cliffs making this an unforgettable day’s cycling. Finally you will arrive in Stupava, famous for pottery and ceramics, for your overnight's stay.
After breakfast you will continue cycling west until you reach the banks of the River Morava where you join the green cycle path heading to Devin Castle. Cycling on the bank of the River Morava all the way to Devin Castle is a very enjoyable part of today’s cycling. Taking time out to visit the castle, you can then continue cycling to the centre of Bratislava, one of the youngest capitals in Europe, where you will check-in to your hotel.
Today is the last day of cycling (although there is an optional extra day of cycling that is possible) and the route, following the banks of the Danube, is one of the highlights of this trip. You will experience the quietness of the countryside and the beauty of the wildlife and birds. Cycling in one direction you then cross a bridge and return to Bratislava on the other side of the river, passing through small settlements and farmland to give you a real taste of Slovakia. At the end of the day your bikes will be collected. If you want to keep your bikes for an extra day, this needs to be booked in advance.
Day to explore Bratislava. The rich mix of cultures and nations has left its mark in the language spoken here and also in the customs, cuisine and lifestyle. Whether you want to browse around shops, go to some of the many art galleries, take in some live music or just relax in the squares of the centre enjoying a coffee in one of the many cafes. It combines elegance with charm. Visitors say that the city has a relaxed Mediterranean type atmosphere.
Checkout from your hotel after breakfast to make your way home.
If you want to make this an 8 day 7 night holiday then instead of sightseeing in Bratislava on Day 6 you can keep your bike for an extra day and enjoy a bike ride going towards Vienna. You might decide to cycle all the way to Vienna (approximately 40 miles) and then return by boat or you might decide on something less ambitious. Options will be provided and explained. If you choose this option then Day 7 becomes a day for sightseeing in Bratislava.
