St Moritz to Innsbruck

Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival in St Moritz

Sightseeing around St Moritz or cycle to the source of the River Inn.

Day 2:
St. Moritz to Zernez, 22 miles (35 km)

Your cycling holiday to Innsbruck starts today. You cycle via Samedan with its lovely old tower and onto La Punt with an early gothic church, dedicated to San-Andrea. After looking at the frescos in the church continue to Zuoz, with window paintings in the church San Luzi, and the finally to Zernez. You bike through the high valley of the Upper Engadin. Zernez is the gate to the National Park.

Day 3:
Zernez to Scuol, 22 miles (35 km)

Your first town to visit today is Lavin, a wonderfully preserved town full of character of an old mountain village. The name of the village Guarda (“Look!”) is based on the beautiful views. But ait is alos famous for tall stone houses with sgraffito-decorated facades which line the narrow streets.The ornamentation and simple paintings on the buildings are among the most remarkable examples anywhere in the Engadine. The aim of today’s stage is Scuol, with one of Europe's modern spas “Bogn Engiadina” and the castle Tarasp, the majestic landmark of the Engadin.

Day 4:
Scuol to Ried, 34 miles (55 km)

between Switzerland and Austria. Then you cycle over Pfunds and Tösens to Ried. As you follow the cycle alongside the River Inn you will go through the Finstermünzer Schlucht (gorge) and the town centres of Stuben and Pfunds in the Tyrol.

Day 5:
Ried to Imst, 25 miles (40 km)

You will cycle through the “Obere Gericht (Upper Court)” from Ried over Prutz down to Landeck where you can see the castle with its museum.. You cycle pass the monastery Zams and through Milser Au (river meadow) to Imst (town of the wells with many churches and chapels). A recommendation is that you cycle through the Rosengartenschlucht (rose garden gorge).

Day 6:
Imst to Innsbruck, 41 miles (65 km)

There are smart, small villages on the Inn-bike-path. Cultural highlight of today’s stage is the Zisterzienserstrift Stams (collegiate church with rose grids). Numerous small churches and ruins are on the slopes of the Inn-valley. Along the Martinswand you come to Innsbruck which has a beautiful old town. You can see the "Goldenes Dachl" a golden roof, town tower, castle Hofburg, royal park Hofgarten, and the historic town house Helbinghaus.

Day 7:
Departure from Innsbruck

Trip ends after breakfast.
