Itinerary
The tour can be extended by 1 day and staying in Brasilava.Day 1:
Individual arrival to the magical and lively city of Vienna.
Day 2:
The Danube-Cycle-Path leads you on quiet paths through the national park “Donauauen”, passing the castles of “Orth” and “Eckartsau” until you reach the former Roman city Petronell-Carnuntum, or the health resort Bad Deutsch Altenburg. 29 miles.
Day 3:
In the border city of Hainburg you can take a ferry and cross the Danube to the fortress of Devin. From here it is a short ride to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Further along the banks of the Danube you soon reach the Hungarian border and continue through small farming villages. 38 miles.
Day 4:
Today, you will cycle through the charming and idyllic landscape of the “Little Alföld” to Györ, one of the important cities of the Hungarian lowlands with a glamorous, historical city centre. 26 miles.
Day 5:
Through a landscape of rolling hills you will cycle to the town of Tata with its lakes, located at the foot of the hill range “Gerecse”. 38 miles.
Day 6:
The first part of the route is rather hilly and will lead you through the densely wooded hills of the “Gerecse” range. (Or if you prefer to avoid this part you can take the train approx. 12 miles – train fare not incl.). You will reach the divided city of Komarom (border-town between Hungary and Slovakia). Along the Slovakian Danube bank you cycle through small farming villages along a flat region to Esztergom. 34 miles.
Day 7:
From Esztergom, also called the “Hungarian Rome”, you cycle to Visegrad and then to the Sztendre-island by ferry. Once more you take a ferry from the island to the lively and unusual artists village of Szentendre. From here you have the choice of continuing cycling to Budapest or take a boat ride to your final destination. 36 miles
Day 8:
Transfer by bus from Budapest to Vienna at 5.00pm and/or extension of stay.
