Krakow, once Poland's capital and one of the most beautiful cities of Eastern Europe, is where this tour begins and ends. The medieval town centre, with its many bars in the streets around the main square, is still very much alive.
This area of southern Poland known as the foothills of the Carpathians or Rural Galicia boasts wonderful unspoiled landscapes - with its magnificent medieval towns, villages where the age-old rhythms of life still continue and the characteristic wooden churches seen by the side of the roads along which farm animals and horse drawn carts still pass.
Add to this the spectacular cycle route through the Dunajec Gorge, marking the border between Poland and Slovakia, and you have a holiday to remember.
You can join a group with a Guide for this tour or it is available on a self-guided basis if you prefer the independence. The first and last nights are spent in Krakow and five nights in villages and towns in the mo
untains. The route is on quiet, well-made roads and paths.
Occasionally, but only for a few kilometres, the route is on busier roads, or on field paths. There are no difficult gradients, and as always in river valley routes most of it is downhill.
