Itinerary
Day 1 (Saturday): Arrival in Copenhagen.
In Copenhagen do have a stroll on Strøget, the long pedestrian street. Here you will find the old medieval part of Copenhagen, as well as many excellent restaurants.
Day 2 (Sunday): Copenhagen to Helsingør, 30 miles (48km).
Ahead of you on the first day of cycling lies a pleasant ride out of Copenhagen (on cycle paths) towards Helsingør. Enjoy Dyrehaven, the royal hunting ground on your left, and the view of the sea - Sweden towering in the distance - on your right. The night is spent in Helsingør in a hotel on the beach next to Castle Kronborg.
Day 3 (Monday): Helsingør to Hillerød, 21 miles (34km).
A day of castles! When in Helsingør visit Hamlet's castle Kronborg. After that, a lovely ride down to Fredensborg - lots of time on your hands, fresh air and beautiful countryside all around you. Continue to Hillerød where the night is spent at a modern hotel near the famous Frederiksborg Castle.
Day 4 (Tuesday): Hillerød to Hundested, 29 miles (47km).
If you have saved the visit of Frederiksborg Castle until today, you will have enough time to explore the unique interior of the castle, located in the middle of a lake, surrounded by baroque gardens. Then continue through the forest and fields on a paved cycle route to Ramløse and the lake Arresø. On the way to Hundested there is an excellent opportunity for a swim at the Northern Sealand beaches. Spend the night in Hundested.
Day 5 (Wednesday): Hundested to Skuldelev, 19 miles (31km).
Go through the idyllic fishing hamlet Lynæs to the small ferryboat at Sølager. Once on the other side of the fiord continue through the forest Nordskoven, famous for its old oak trees. Coming out of the forest you will see the castle Jægerspris Slot. The night will be spent in the small village Skuldelev.
Day 6 (Thursday): Skuldelev to Roskilde, 32 miles (51km).
Visit the beautifully restored manor house Selsø Slot. Continue through forests and undulating fields to the open-air museum Lejre where you can experience daily life from Iron-Age to Viking-Age. On to Roskilde, the former Danish capital.
Day 7 (Friday): Roskilde to Copenhagen, 28 miles (46km).
Through picturesque villages to the beaches south of the capital. A path takes you along the coast away from traffic, all the way into the centre of Copenhagen.
Day 8 (Saturday): Depart from Copenhagen.
Departure from Copenhagen after breakfast.
