Itinerary
Day 1 (Saturday):
Founded by the Romans, Koblenz is set at the famous Deutsches Eck (German Corner), where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Just a quick stroll around the town will highlight the appeal of Koblenz - its romantic narrow streets, historical squares and picturesque alleyways in the old quarter.
Day 2 (Sunday):
The Fluvius takes you upriver from Koblenz to Rudesheim. From there you cycle via Bingen to Mainz, where you cannot fail to be captivated by the open, friendly atmosphere of the town and its people. You feel it wherever you go: wandering through the market or the lovingly restored old town or strolling along the banks of the river Rhine. 22miles
Day 3 (Monday):
Starting from Mainz you leave the Rhine for a while, exploring inland heading south to Oppenheim. You meet the boat again at Worms where you can enjoy the historic old town with dome and Nibelungen gate. 28 miles
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Leaving Worms you cycle via Lampertheim and Hemsbach to Weinheim and continue to Ladenburg. Along the river Neckar you cycle to Heidelberg, world famous for its romantic castle and its picturesque Old Town with its winding alleys steeped in history.
Day 5 (Wednesday):
From Heidelberg via Ziegelhausen you explore the surroundings to Neckar-Gmünd. Through famous Odenwald forest to Neckarsteinach and Eberbach, a historic little town with a maze of narrow alleys. Eberbach Abbey is at the heart of the Rheingau, in a scenic valley away from noisy roads and busy towns, surrounded by woods and vineyards. The gates to the ancient abbey are open to visitors all year round. The abbey is also famous as the setting for the film "The Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery. 22 miles
Day 6 (Thursday):
Today you will take a short detour to fortress Hornberg, one of the most impressive fortresses in the Neckar valley. You rejoin the boat and take a trip to Neckarsulm where you will visit the 2-wheel-museum. The final destination today is Heilbronn where there is plenty to do and see including the historic town hall and the Decorative Astronomic Clock.
22 miles
Day 7 (Friday):
A short boat transfer starts the day. Cycle to Benningen and Marbach, the town where the German poet Schiller was born. Ludwigsburg is a gem of a historic city and the town's famous landmark and centrepiece is the magnificent baroque royal palace with its "fairy tale garden". 22 miles
