Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, offers something for everyone. The sea sparkles on the warm volcanic sands of its many beaches; the numerous invaders of history have left a rich and varied architectural heritage; the lush coast rises quickly to a mountainous and impressively desolate interior, over which the smoking crater of Etna looms ominously. Sicilian cuisine is a tantalising display of exotic and colourful ingredients, perfectly complemented by the excellent wines of the island. Pasta comes in all shapes and sizes with many tasty sauces, and fish from the surrounding waters including swordfish, squid and numerous crustations are served with delicious sauces or simply with a dressing of olive oil, lemon and herbs.
On this tour of Sicily's South Eastern coast you will cross the Val Di Noto (Noto Valley), which was included by UNESCO in the Word Heritage List in 2003. The tour will allow you to discover some of Sicily's most intriguing cities, including Noto, the most significant baroque city of Sicily and the ancient Greek colony of Siracusa (Syracuse). Continuing on, you will pedal along the coast of Vendicari and through the port city of Marzamemi, always with the islands of Cape Passero and Correnti in view. The delicious and often rather spicy cuisine of Sicily and its many excellent wines add a finishing touch to a holiday in this fascinating part of Italy.
