In the heart of this region, at a distance of 130 km from Lisbon, lies the city of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Part of the town of Évora is enclosed by ancient walls and has been preserved in its original state, as well as its monuments dating from various historical periods.
Day 2:
Circular tour to Arroiolos renowned for its hand-made tapestries, based on traditional drawings from the 17th and 18th centuries. There are numerous shops where you can see and buy them and behind the main street you can see women embroidering the tapestries. 34 miles
Day 3:
Circular tour to the stone circle of Cromeleques de Almendre (a sort of Stonehenge) is your destination for today. Made up of 95 elliptical stones, it is oval shaped (60mx30m) with a slope of 11% facing east and is believed to have been a temple dedicated to a solar cult... 32 miles
Day 4:
Circular tour to Igrejinha a typical village from Alentejo Region. The white houses with colored stripes, where distinct colours are almost like a competition between the neighbours to see who has the best painted house in the village. 37 miles
Day 5:
Circular tour to the Grutas do Escoural caves that contain paintings dating as far back as 30,000 years! Also, close by is the Dolman known as Zambujeira, which has a 14 metre-long entrance. 50 miles
