travel :

  • Fly to Malaga, Jerez or Seville then bus or train to Ronda (2 to 2.5 hours)
  • Train information from Renfe

Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival in Ronda where you can visit the bullring (Spain’s oldest). There are spectacular views as you cross the bridge over Ronda’s famous gorge to take a stroll round Ronda’s old quarter.

Day 2:

You will cycle to the Cueva de Gato, a beautiful spot to have a picnic, and continue to the train station of the small village Benaoján where you can take a drink in the bar STOP before taking the train back to Ronda. Or you can cycle back. 11 or 22 miles

Day 3:

The first stop today is Ronda for Setenil de las Bodegas, a focal point of the Cádiz mountains white villages route. Lose yourself in the villages intimate corners and tapas bar. You then follow the Trejo River to Olvera, with its typical church and 12th Century castle. 23 miles

Day 4:

You leave Olvera on a Vías Verdes (disused railway line) passing the Peñon de Zaframagón - a nature reserve with Andalusia’s largest colonies of vultures. You follow the Guadalete River as far as Puerto Serrano and then quiet lanes to the village of Villamartín. 33 miles

Day 5:

Cycling from Villamartín you follow a narrow country lane to the village of Bornos, nestling beside a reservoir. Then it’s a bit of a climb to get to Arcos de la Frontera. This town, a typical village with cobbled streets leading up to a castle, is situated on cliffs high above the River Guadalete. 24 miles

Day 6:

Today it’s a taxi ride to Jerez followed by a cycle ride to Puerto de Santa María. In Jerez you can see the training of the beautiful Andalusian horses for their “ballet” (daily visits on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). In Puerto de Santa María you will discover an authentic Andalusia, enjoy its beaches and promenades, taste its wines, tapas and famous seafood. 17 miles

Day 7:

Today is a day of choices. You can visit a brandy maker and three wine cellars or take the little steamboat to Cádiz to visit this delightful city. If you want to cycle then there is the circular route of the Bay of Cádiz, a beautiful ride passing marshes, salt-flats and Mediterranean pine forests.
18 miles

Day 8:

Time to depart. Train or bus to Cadiz and then a bus to Malaga. Or train to Seville.
