Summary

The Vienna Woods and the "Magic Mountains" are found in the thermal and wine region of Lower Austria. The gentle hills of the Vienna Woods abruptly give way to the high plateaus of Rax and Schneeberg (Snowy Mountain). This traditional summer playground of the Austrian nobility is as enjoyable today as in the days of the Empire. The holiday is based on 2 centres, three nights in Payerbach and three nights in Puchberg

Puchberg is rather close to Vienna, so why not take the opportunity to stay some extra days in Austria’s capital.

Characteristics

Higher elevations are crossed by cable car or train. Nevertheless shorter but steep climbs have to be taken into account. You walk on plateaus of alpine character and you should have a fair stamina and some experience for self-guided walking holidays of up to 5.5 hours walking time.
