After arrival at Thessaloniki Airport you’ll collect your hire car and drive to your hotel at Sithonia. After check-in, you have some time to relax at the beach or to discover the area.
This walk will begin at Porto Carras and take you up into the vineyards high above Neos Marmaras, giving astonishing views over the sea. You can see the variety of wildflowers and fruit-bearing plants. The return path drops to the coast and meanders through open forest, passing several beautiful sandy coves with fine beaches along the way.
This longer walk takes you to the very old village of Parthenonas and it can be altered and adjusted to your abilities. Starting at Taverna Drossia (1,5 km north of N. Marmaras), you can either ascend by a strenuous path to an old water mill and dam and then through olive groves and forests to the village. Alternatively, you could ascend with an easy forest path or a short but steep route which follows a mountain stream bed.
This walk takes one on a circular trip, north, around the ridge directly above the town and has lovely views of the town, surrounding countryside, and Sithonias’ Coast. The route makes use of old charcoal burners paths, goat tracks and unsurpassed farm access roads. Parts of the circuit involve rather steep rocky roads with bizarre rock formations.
You’ll take the ferry boat from Ormos Panagia and make a trip around the third finger of Halkidiki, Athos. There is an amazing view on the monasteries and Mount Athos. The boat stops in Ouranoupolis where you have the opportunity to go for lunch in a tavern with special Greek food and music. After, you will goback with the ferry to to Ormos Panagia. This will be an unforgettable day for you!
This is an easy level route, along forest roads and narrow tracks, providing an excellent view of the coastline and beyond. It will take you south-east to an olive grove. As the ascent continues you’ll reach the Church of the Apostle Paul, which contains a holy spring. The plateau here is covered with massive rocks that have pine trees, flowering scrubs, heathers and other plants growing up in between them. You can also savour the sweet smell of honey coming from the outskirts of the forest path lined with beehives. As the track gets sandy it leads to a narrow woodland path and a rock named after his ‘owner’ Peter. ‘Petros’ is a very large rock that comes to a point at the top. This is the highest point of the ridge and anyone brave enough can ascend and enjoy a breathtaking view of the peninsula, before returning back to Elia.
This walk is a circular route that uses forest tracks to cross over the hill behind Nikiti to visit the small town of Ag. Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas). The start of the walk is beside the school of Nikiti. You’ll pass goat shelters, olive groves, beehives, and woodlands and 2 small churches. At the picnic area there, you can take a well-deserved respite and delight in the beauty of the valley from here. Afterwards, you’ll return again to Nikiti.
