Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival in Assisi

Arrival in Assisi. Time to explore the town with its alleys and squares. On the 'Piazza del Comune' is the famous Roman temple of Minerva.

Day 2:
Assisi and surroundings, 8 miles (12km)

You can choose to make a cultural city walk in Assisi through a tangle of small alleys and across medieval squares passing the remains of an amphitheatre, the basilica of St. Francis, the temple of Minerva…… Alternatively you can walk through the hills surrounding Assisi. The route will bring you back to Assisi, through gentle, rolling countryside. There is a longer route of 11 miles (19km) available.

Day 3:
Assisi to Spello, 8 or 11 miles (12 or 17km)

There are two routes to go to Spello: a longer one going uphill to the hermitage Eremo delle Carceri or a shorter one through olive groves along the slopes of Monte Subasio. Spello has Roman origins.

Day 4:
Spello to Bevagna, 8 miles (13km)

You will descend into the ‘Valle Umbra’ and walking on quiet country roads you will arrive in Bevagna where the rivers Timia and Topino meet. The heart of this town is the square ‘Piazza Silvestri’ with its beautiful fountain and two Romanesque churches. Don’t forget to visit the mosaic of a former Roman bathhouse.

Day 5:
Bevagna to Montefalco, 9 miles (14km)

Walking through a slightly hilly landscape, the olive groves soon make way for vineyards. Montefalco is famous for the production of excellent wines, Sagrantino and Rosso di Montefalco.

Day 6:
Montefalco to Campello, 6 or 12 miles (10 or 18km)

On the way to Trevi your route crosses the fertile valley where the slopes of the surrounding mountains are covered with olive groves. From Trevi the route will lead you through these groves to Campello. To shorten today’s route it is possible to ask for a transfer and start below the town of Trevi.

Day 7:
Campello to Spoleto, 9 miles (15km)
