Itinerary

Day 1 (Friday):

Arrive in St Wolfgang on Lake Wolfgangsee, where you can visit the famous altar and view the charming town houses.

Day 2 (Saturday):

Comfortable walk on the “Sattelweg” to the small mountain lake, Schwarzensee, idyllically nestling in the midst of the surrounding summits and an alpine pasture. Return through a gorge and along the lakeside to the hotel.
13 miles, 5.5 hours (easy to shorten to 10 miles and 5 hours)

Day 3 (Sunday):

First a ferry crossing to St Gilgen and then you will walk to the solitary mountain farm Kühleiten. Down into Tiefbrunnau, a picturesque green valley and then on a regular and soft climb up to the alpine pasture Schafbach Alm. On a forest road you walk deep into the western part of the Osterhorn group and then up to the mountain Genner cabin, where you will stay for 2 days. 10 miles, 5.5 hours

Day 4 (Monday):

From Osterhorn, you can enjoy lovely views as far as the glinting glaciers of Dachstein, the impressive pyramid of Watzmann, National Park Hohe Tauern and Lake Wolfgangsee. Walk on the plateau, where cattle and horses spend the summer. 6 miles, 4 hours

Day 5 (Tuesday):

Deep gorges and narrow valleys cut through the mountains and cattle feed on lush green meadows on the slopes. This contrast between unspoilt and cultivated nature forms part of the unique atmosphere of the region. 10 miles, 5.5 hours

Day 6 (Wednesday):

A comfortable walk through the idyllic Bluntautal valley, cut deep into the steep rocks. On both sides the rock walls seem to scrape the blue sky. Slowly you wind your way up to alpine cabin Stahl Haus, where you can rest and enjoy a gorgeous panoramic view and local food. One last climb and you stand on the summit of Jenner with stunning view of Watzmann, the peaks of the Stony Sea and the deep green waters of Lake Konigssee. Downhill by cable car to Berchtesgaden in Bavaria 10 miles, 6.5 hours
