Itinerary
Day 1:
Individual arrival at Abersee/Wolfgangsee
Day 2:
First a boat trip to St. Wolfgang and then along the higher altitude walk to Falkenstein, enjoying the views of the lake. The idyllic Fürberg walk along the lake brings you to the village of St. Gilgen . Return by ferry. 10 miles
Day 3:
By ferry to St. Wolfgang. Along the saddle walk to the lake Schwarzensee, where Madame Lore of the lake hut waits to treat you with local specialities. Down into the valley through a gorge and around the Bürglstein to the lake promenade in Strobl. By bus to the Emperor’s town Bad Ischl. 10 milesDay 4:
Rest day in Bad Ischl where you can visit the Emperor’s villa, Café Zauner or the hotel Austria, where the engagement of Emperor Franz Josef and Elisabeth of Bavaria (Sissi of the famous film …) took place.
Day 5:
Salt has always been an important raw material of the Salzkammergut. Along the promenade of the river Ischl on the brine-pipeline walk to the world cultural heritage Bad Goisern. 7 miles
Day 6:
You continue on the brine-pipeline walk to the Salzberg (salt mountain) in Hallstatt (old salt mine – since the Celtic times). The way is slightly ascending and offers beautiful views of the small town of Hallstatt and the marvellous mount Dachstein (highest mountain of Upper Austria). Then you cross the lake by boat back to Bad Goisern. 7 miles
Day 7:
First you have a bus trip to Bad Ischl. You continue along the Elisabeth footpath to the idyllic lake Nussensee and follow the river Ischl to Strobl. Alongside Lake Wolfgangsee you continue through the Blinkling moor to Abersee with beautiful views of St. Wolfgang and Schafberg. 12 miles
Day 8:
Departure after breakfast.
