  • Fly to Dresden then a 45 minute train journey to Bad Schandau

Itinerary

Day 1:


Arrival in Bad Schandau, a well-known health resort in the heart of the Saxon Switzerland. Time to explore the town or a visit to the “Toskana Therme”, an indoor swimming pool that combines sound, light and video over and under the water.

Day 2:


Stride out t hrough the national park “Saxon Switzerland” to the fortress Hohenstein and enjoy the view from the “balcony of the Saxon Switzerland”. Afterwards you reach the famous Bastei Bridge with wonderful views over the Elbe valley and the table mountains. The tour ends in the small and lovely town Rathen on the banks of the Elbe River. 5 hours.

Day 3:

Today you cross the river Elbe by ferry and walk through the mountains “Großer und Kleiner Bärenstein” to the “Königstein”. This impressive mountain fort offers wonderful vistas over the picturesque sandstone mountains and the foothills of the eastern Ore Mountains. Continue to Königstein. 6 hours.

Day 4:

Following shady forest paths to the rock needle “Barbarine”. Cross the table mountain “Pfaffenstein” where you have a wonderful view over the Lilienstein, a very famous mountain in the Saxon Switzerland. Via “Muselweg” you reach the small health resort Gohrisch. 5 hours.

Day 5:

The region around Gohrisch is called the empire of the stones because of the interesting rock formations with lookout points and caves. One of them is the mountain Gohrisch itself, which is your first target before continuing to Cunnersdorf and Kleingießhübel. The last ascent is the mountain Kohlbornstein and then onto your hotel in Krippen. 6 hours.

Day 6:

Hop on the fast train from Krippen to Schöna and use the ferry to Hrensko in the Czech Republic. You will walk to the Rock Arch Pravčická Brána, the largest natural stone bridge in Europe. A boat through the gorge “Edmundsklamm” takes you back to Hrensko, where you return to Krippen. 6 hours.

Day 7:

A challenging day or just relax in Bad Schandau. With the ferry you cross from Krippen to Bad Schandau and take the steep path to the rocks “Schrammsteine”. You walk along the “Affensteig” route and follow the “Painters path” to the Ostrauer Mühle tavern. A traditional tram brings you back to Bad Schandau through the lovely “Kirnitzschtal”. 6 hours.

Day 8:

Departure after breakfast or stay an extra night in Dresden.
