- Fly to Verona and then train to Brixen
Characteristic
The route follows well marked hiking paths, through meadows and forests. The Dolomites always remain within sight, but no rocky paths are walked. Some distances can be shortened by public bus service.
Routes of medium difficulty on good trails and paths. Daily distance up to 6 hours and height differences get higher. Good training level for some parts is required – you walk up to 11 miles; 17 km. Also summits of up to 2,000m may be included.
Itinerary
Day 1 (Sunday):
Make your way to Brixen in the South Tyrol. Enjoy a stroll in the city; visit the White Dome and Bishops Residence. Not to forget monastery Neustift, which is famous for the excellent Sylvane wine. In the evening there is a welcome meeting and introduction of the tour.
Day 2 (Monday):
Leaving Brixen you walk up mount Pfeffersberg. On beautiful terraces past hamlets and farms to the south mighty Dolomites tower – that makes your day. You reach Feldthurns and monastery Säben, perched on top of a hill and one of the oldest monasteries in South Tyrol. From there you make your way to your hotel in the town of Klausen.
Day 3 (Tuesday):
You leave Klausen and walk through the narrow Thinne valley. Across vineyards and chestnut groves you reach Villanders. Your hotel is in the village of Barbian. which has a Roman church with a leaning tower.Day 4 (Wednesday):
The marvellous countryside above Eisack valley is Ritten, a popular holiday resort of Bolzano’s jet set. Again and again you will stop and drink in the marvellous views of the Dolomites. Past picturesque earthen pyramids you enjoy a ride with Rittner train, which brings you to Bolzano. In the evening a stroll through this truly European city reveals a peaceful meeting of Italian and Austrian culture.
Day 5 (Thursday):
In the morning you take the bus to Völs. Hike in the shadow of impressive Schlern Massive to Kastelruth.
Day 6 (Friday):
There are two ways from Kastelruth into the Grödner Valley. Either you walk the world famous Seiseralm Alpine pasture or one level lower on a direct path into the well known valley of wood carvers. On the foot of imposing Langkofel you once more admire the mountains of Dolomites.
Day 7 (Saturday):
You leave Grödner Valley on the old postal trail and reach Klausen in the north. The last stage to Bolzano is covered by train.
Day 8 (Sunday):
Individual departure or extra days.
