What to expect

Cycle between two of the world's most iconic cities, setting out from Paris to London and touring through rolling countryside scattered with castles, cathedrals and picture postcard villages. Pedal at your own pace along a network of linked cycle paths, crossing the English Channel by ferry between Britain’s white chalk cliffs and the historic French resort of Dieppe. A perfect blend of city sights and rural charms, see the Arc de Triomphe and Houses of Parliament, and tour through blue-tinged estuaries and shady forests.

Take a break whenever it suits, visiting pubs in quintessential English villages or relaxing on the banks of the River Seine – a favourite painting spot of the artist Monet. The stately homes of Royal Tunbridge Wells are an appealing place to stop in England, and take your pick of stone castles and grand chateaux to visit in France.

If you prefer to experience this tour with the benefit of a guide's local knowledge, why not choose the guided Paris to London tour with a back-up support vehicle?

  • Historic French towns, stunning chateaux & English villages and pubs

The Trip

  • Day 1: Arrive in Paris

Check in to your Paris hotel, leaving enough time to visit a few of the city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral.

  • Day 2: Paris - Cergy 33 miles (55 km)

Cycle out of the city alongside the River Seine and enter a scenic valley of villas and gardens, passing the famous Axe Historique chain of monuments. Tour past islands and parks immortalised by impressionist artists and enter the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, with the option of stopping at a celebrated riverboat museum.

  • Day 3: Cergy - Gisors 37 miles (60 km)

Pedal past castles, farmhouses and the picturesque towns of Vexin Natural Park. Cycle to the 18th century castle at Villarceaux and continue along the riverside to the Anglo-Saxon fortress at Gisors.

  • Day 4: Gisors - Forges-les-Eaux 39 miles (65 km)

Discover typical parish hamlets and the spa town of Forges-les-Eaux as you cycle into Normandy to appreciate the region’s famous cuisine.

  • Day 5: Forges-les-Eaux - Newhaven 37 miles (60 km)

Follow the cycle path towards the coast, passing countryside dotted with farms. Cycle through the blue-tinged landscapes of the Arques estuary, which is overlooked by an iconic castle and ancient sand caves. Reach the English Channel at Dieppe and travel by ferry to Newhaven in England, for your overnight stay.

  • Day 6: Newhaven - East Grinstead 35/47 miles (55/75 km)

Take the train from Newhaven to Polegate and pick up the Cuckoo Valley Trail and cycle along this disused railway line to Heathfield. Alternatively cycle an extra 20km from Newhaven to visit the flamboyant seaside town of Brighton with its Regency elegance and Edwardian architecture before taking the train to Polegate. Follow the Forest Way until you reach the historic market town of East Grinstead.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. The only complaint is that there could have been some more arrows along the route. That would have been helpful. The route was lovely and the hotels were nice.
