What to expect
Pedal through the Austrian Danube Valley on a flat, paved cycle path that’s ideal for first-timers and children. This family friendly cycle week begins in UNESCO-listed Linz and takes you east to Vienna. Pedaling beside the riverbank for much of the route, you’ll follow the Danube as it flows downstream, staying in farmhouses, rural guesthouses and child-friendly hotels en route. The cycling is broken up with places to visit and ferry trips so little legs will have several opportunities to rest and recoup.
Throughout your holiday, you’ll have lots of opportunities for family fun, from donkey rides and boat trips to Ferris wheels and river swims. When you pedal through the Machland region, you can step back in time at the Celtic open-air museum. The waterpark in Ardagger is always a hit, and the World Heritage Wachau Valley is a highlight on day five – you’ll have a full day here to swim in the Danube, visit castles and museums, or sample the local wines. As you ride through Austria, you’ll pass orchards, monasteries, grand castles and vast vineyards. When you arrive in Vienna, expect waltzes, concertos, street performers and more, before taking the train back to Linz.
