  • Day 4 (Wed): Budapest - Rest day or optional round trip to Szentendre Optional 34 miles (54 km)

Awake to a fantastic view of the Danube and spend a day exploring Budapest, pedalling past riverside palaces. Alternatively, ride to the galleries and pretty houses of Szentendre, a modest cycle out of the city.

  • Day 5 (Thu): Danube Bend - Esztergom 27 miles (43 km)

Cruise through the picturesque, slightly hilly landscape of the Danube Bend, also known as the Hungarian Wachau. Cycle via the Baroque city Vác and onwards to experience the basilica at Esztergom.

  • Day 6 (Fri): Vienna - Rest day

Take an optional bike or bus tour of Vienna and experience the famous architecture of the Hofburg Palace, St Stephen’s cathedral, and colourful Hundertwasser house. Enjoy an optional evening concert or operetta in the Hofburg or at a wine tavern. Sail on to Wachau during the night.

  • Day 7 (Sat): Wachau - Krems - Melk 23 miles (37 km)

Will the itinerary ever change?

Yes, you can relax on the boat or explore when you arrive at each destination instead of cycling.

Can the boat cater for special dietary requirements?

Please advise us of any special requirements at time of booking and we will notify the boat operator in advance. Understandably, kitchen galley space is limited and it may not be possible to provide specialist products (eg. Gluten free). We suggest you bring a few items with you and, in some cases, these can be provided at a supplement.

Although there is no organised group, self-guided guests regularly find they come across their fellow passengers along the route during the day and may even get together to form their own cycling groups.

A well organized boat/bike trip on an excellent cruise ship with an outstanding crew. My wife and I would recommend e-bikes as there are a few hills on the trip and if you want to explore some interesting buildings or churches in villages, they are often located at higher elevations! There are a few areas where some improvement is needed on instructions and directions -signs/maps - we are sure this will be addressed. The crew and officers were exceptional and Freedom Treks provided a good service with the personal touch prior to our trip. Trip is proving to be very popular with Canadians.

Very enjoyable holiday and a great way of seeing the countryside. The weather was good and we were treated to a lovely display of Autumn colours as we cycled along. The cycle path was easy with very little hills and our trip through the Wacau wine region was stunning. Budapest city tour by night was unforgettable with the vast array of lights and the chain bridge lit up like a pearl necklace. The Hungarian folklore and musical evening was most enjoyable as was our trip to Vienna which was made special by our most enthuastic guide. The cabins were very comfortable with good quality mattresses and bed linen and our final night at the 70s disco was brilliant. Thank you all.
