Cycling History
Cycling’s a huge part of my life and I’ve been on two wheels since I can remember. We’d take bikes away on family trips, school holidays were filled with cycling around South London with friends, and as I grew up, it became a way of getting to work and keeping fit.
Sadly, I’m yet to do any serious travelling by bicycle, although as a new member of the Freedom Treks team, I’m sure that’ll change very soon!
Favourite Tour
The Lofoten Islands Bike Tour. While I haven't cycled this specific tour, I did travel through the Lofoten Islands on my motorcycle in 2018, and it was an experience that will remain with me forever.
It’s a truly staggering part of the world and a place I’ve promised my wife I’ll revisit with her, this time by bicycle!
Best Travel Memory
This is a tough question! I’m lucky enough to have plenty of brilliant travel memories, but I think the best trips are made by the people alongside you, so I’ll go with motorcycling around Ireland with my dad. Stunning scenery, a dive into my heritage and plenty of Guinness as well.
Strangest Travel Experience
Involves a generous offer of a spare room for the night, a hot tub and a very forward host couple. Thankfully, they eventually took a polite no for an answer.
Top Travel Tip
Planning’s great, but leave some space to go with the flow and head where the day takes you. Take that alluring sideroad that a local recommended or stop at the quaint roadside café, you won’t regret it.
Interesting Fact
During one of the many Covid lockdowns, I converted a small van into a mini campervan. The Wu Tang Van and I spent four happy years trundling around the UK.
