The route is mainly flat but with some hilly sections although not too severe; the only strenuous parts are the Monti Berici. The first two stages are predominantly on bicycle paths, whereas south and east of Lake Garda you cycle mostly on country lanes and minor roads. Where there are no cycle paths a few, short sections are on busier roads. You cycle almost all the way on asphalt.
