Arrival in Utrecht
Make your way to the city of Utrecht, Holland’s most important city in the Golden Dutch Age. Explore the medieval streets and canals, stopping for a drink at one of its charming canal-level cafes. If you have the time (and energy), climb the 465 steps up the narrow stairwell of the 14th-century bell tower for amazing views of the city and, if it’s a clear day, as far as Amsterdam!
Utrecht – Amsterdam
39 miles (63 km)
Pedal along the winding banks of the River Vecht passing stately homes built as summer retreats by rich Amsterdam merchants in the 17th and 18th centuries. Reach the bicycle friendly city of Amsterdam, where there are said to be more bikes than inhabitants, and check in to your hotel. Visit Anne Frank’s House, the Van Gogh Museum or Rijksmuseum with masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
Amsterdam – Gouda
50 miles (80 km)
Ride through Holland’s rural ‘Green Heart’ stopping off at characteristic old Dutch towns and villages before reaching the cheese town of Gouda. Arriving in Gouda you can wander around the inner city canals or see the beautiful 16th-century stained-glass windows in the town’s church.
If you want to see the traditional morning cheese market in Gouda on day 4 , you will need to start your tour on Monday.
You can also split this day into two shorter cycle days (30 km and 49 km) by adding an extra night in Woerden and starting your tour on Sunday.
Gouda – Utrecht
42 miles (67 km)
Cycle through a wonderful landscape of lakes, rivers, polders, woods and marshy fens. Arriving in Utrecht, explore the pretty Museum Quarter, the canals and historic wharves of the city centre.

The trip was very well set up with all of the information we needed and help from the UK when we wanted the GPS maps. The cycling was great, through lovely countryside and through towns at the times that we really needed a break and some food. Hotels were great with buffet breakfasts with lots of variety. I would definitely recommend the tour we did.Kaye Montador, UK, April 2019
Absolutely beautiful Country and people. Amazing houses along the route, beautiful scenery. Wish the maps had been clearer but it didn't spoil our enjoyment.Ruth Swain, UK, July 2018
