The beautiful mountain city of Bolzano with its narrow streets and colourfully painted buildings will be your base as you explore the beautiful scenery of the South Tyrol by bike. Pedal through vineyards and orchards full of apple blossom on bike paths and farm tracks, swim in beautiful lakes with clear, sparkling waters and take a cable car high above Upper Bolzano and appreciate the mountain panorama. Visit historic cities of Merano and Trento with their beautiful cathedrals and fine architecture.
The cycling is mainly easy going with just a few climbs or on one of the longer days you can opt for a train ride. After the cycling you will be rewarded with wonderful cuisine and will see the wonderful mix of the Austrian and Italian influences, perfect when accompanied by the impressive local wines.

Arrive in Bolzano
Make your way to Bolzano and stroll through the narrow, medieval streets with their colourfully painted buildings and the Alps as a backdrop.
22 miles (35 km) + train or 40 miles (65km)
Cycle along the river Eisack and then on to a newly opened cycle path to Merano, a beautiful spa town with its ancient fortress and promenade. Return via Lana through orchards and vineyards to Eppan and back to your hotel. Option to shorten itinerary today to 35km by taking the train to Merano.
Lake Caldaro & Lake Montigglersee

Take the bike path past the castle Sigmundskron where Reinhold Messner, a local and the first man who climbed Everest without oxygen, houses a museum dedicated to the history and art of mountaineering. Cycle on to Eppan with fantastic views across the valley to Lake Caldaro past vineyards and orchards. Return through the Montiggler Lakes Nature Reserve, the perfect place for a refreshing swim, and continue slightly uphill to Bolzano.
40 miles (65 km)
Ride south on the Adige bike path via Salurn into the Trentino region. Leaving the German-speaking part of Italy behind you, you will get the chance to try a traditional pasta dish (included in your tour). Trento’s picturesque old town with its cathedral, numerous palaces, the Castello del Buonconsiglio and cosy cafes and colourful shops is your destination today. Return by train to Bolzano.
28 miles (45 km)
Take the train to Brixen and explore the Old Town's arcades and cathedral which is beautifully located in the middle of vineyards. Cycle back via the medieval town of Klausen with its' monastery and continue downhill on a beautiful cycle path that was once an old railway line.
Mountain Ridge Ritten
19 miles (30km)
Take the cable car up to 1,221m to Upper Bolzano (bike ticket not included, approx. €5 return). By bike, or alternatively by narrow gauge railway, head to Lake Wolfsgrubensee and onwards to Klobenstein, where you are not far from the unique earth pillars, a fantastic natural phenomenon. Return to Upper Bolzano and take the cable car back down to the valley or descend from Klobenstein to the Eisacktal valley.
