What to expect

Enjoy a long weekend of easy cycling, riding from the mountain city of Bolzano to Verona's pink-hued streets via Lake Garda’s glistening shores. Touring through Veneto’s green landscapes, you’ll bike along riverside paths, picturesque tracks and quiet country roads with a backdrop of mountain peaks.

As you pedal beside the banks of the Adige River, you’ll pass green vineyards and typical Tyrolean villages. Cooling off in Lake Garda’s clear waters makes a welcome halfway treat and cycling into Verona on the last day is a special experience. You’ll have time to see the main city sights, but to fully immerse yourself in the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, extend your stay by an extra day.

  • Rolling vineyards, mellow riverbanks and mountain peaks
  • Sprawling orchards, peaceful countryside and cool waters of Lake Garda
  • Pink-hued houses, palaces and the Roman theatre in Verona
  • Three-days of leisurely cycling along riverside paths and quiet roads.

The Trip

  • Day 1: Arrive in Bolzano

Explore the bilingual streets of Bolzano and experience the unique blend of Italian and Austrian cultures in the city's medieval centre.

  • Day 2: Bolzano - Trento 41/44 miles (65/70 km)

Ride through vineyards and sprawling orchards along the banks of the Adige River, passing typical South Tyrol villages. Visit the sophisticated city of Trento and see ancient palaces, frescoed facades and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore.

For those wanting an easier day we recommend taking the flatter alternative route along the river. There is also the possibility to shorten the itinerary by taking the train today.

  • Day 3: Trento - Peschiera/Desenzano 31 miles (50 km)

Pedal through the ancient fortress city of Rovereto and visit the popular tourist town of Riva on the north shore of Lake Garda. Relax by the lakeside before cruising across to the southern shore and a short cycle ride to your hotel.

  • Day 4: Peschiera/Desenzano - Verona 22/38 miles (35/60 km)

Cycle through green vineyards to the stunning city of Verona and step inside the Roman Arena, Juliet's House and the Church of San Zeno.

  • Day 5: Depart from Verona

Start making your way home after breakfast or extend your stay in Verona.

There is the option to take the train between hotels on every day.

Really enjoyed the tour from Bolzano to Verona. Friendly service from the bike staff at the beginning of the tour. The cycling each day was manageable with a few hills thrown in for good measure! Seeing Lake Garda from the top of a hill was beautiful. Hotels were well chosen for location. Definitely recommended.

A wonderful leisurely tour with breath-taking scenery, delicious food and wine, excellent guide books and maps and a great all-round service from Freedom Treks. They had no problem arranging extra nights along the route so that we could explore the area more. The bikes were very good and the hotels along the route were always clean, in convenient locations and had delicious breakfasts. Tip: Do try out the recommended places to eat and drink in the guide book. Always delicious and excellent value for money. This is our second Freedom Treks holiday and compared to other tour operators we have used they are definitely the best. Thanks Freedom Treks!
