Experience the rugged and mountainous splendour of Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s main islands. With your Yamaha e-bike helping you on your way, you'll cycle via a series of suspension bridges linking the smaller islands of the Seto Inland Sea on the famous ‘Shimanami Kaido’ cycling route.

Setting out from Onomichi, the first two days of this guided e-bike tour follow this route along quiet roads and dedicated cycle lanes. After reaching the historic onsen town of Matsuyama, the e-bikes come into their own, cutting inland through the hills on undulating roads to reach the southern Pacific coast. Continuing via Kochi, the tour finishes in the remote Iya Valley, tucked between lush green mountainsides in a region few Western tourists see.

The cycling on this guided tour is rated as Moderate, but with all riders on e-bikes, it is suitable for most cyclists with some experience and a base level of fitness. The first few days are on a dedicated cycle route, and then on quiet countryside roads with little traffic. A support van is on hand at all times, carrying cold drinks and snacks. The accommodation is a real highlight, with a mix of modern boutique hotels and traditional Ryokan inns, most with onsen baths. Most meals are included, allowing you to sample the best cuisine Japan has to offer. Your guides will also be on hand to assist with ordering and selecting the local specialities.

Ask us about the optional 2 night extensions in Hiroshima before the tour, or in Kyoto after the tour to extend your time in Japan.
