I use a bike to move around town as I find this the cheapest and healthiest way, especially when sitting at a desk for most of the week. When travelling abroad, I always try to organise at least a day of cycling as it’s one of the best ways to explore a foreign country and not get stuck in the touristy, pedestrian parts of the city. I have been cycling with my family in Tuscany, in Norway and as part of my Interrail trip in Amsterdam to have a look at the famous windmills and tulip fields.

I travelled aboard the MS Prinzessin Katharina on the Danube River 4 Countries Boat & Bike Tour. The mixture of stunning natural landscapes and famous capitals to explore was perfect, and the Danube cycle path is a must if you enjoy leisurely cycling away from traffic. I particularly enjoyed cycling by the vineyards in the Wachau region.

Now that I have experienced a boat and bike tour in one of the most popular regions for cyclists, I’d love to try a more remote hotel and bike tour like the La Rioja Descent Bike Tour, perfect for the shoulder seasons, when the weather is just right for cycling. The pictures I’ve seen from customers who have been on this trip for our photo competition are stunning!

Probably travelling to Malaysia when I was little as this was the most diverse place I’d ever been to, and the mixture of cultures and religions make it such an interesting place to visit. I would love to go back now that I’m older.

Do not be afraid to wander, let go of your phone, leave the busy touristy roads, and sometimes allow yourself to just walk around with no particular destination. I think this brings you to discover more hidden gems as well as giving you a flavour of what the local customs actually are.
