With optional rest days in San Bartolomé and Playa Blanca, this tour has the perfect balance of cycling and relaxation. Visit the artist Manrique's famous works such as El Jardín de Cactus, Los Jameos del Agua, El Mirador del Río which are integrated with the volcanic landscape. Cycle to the impressive lava and volcano landscapes of Parque Nacional de Timanfaya and wonder at nature's beauty. Explore the beaches and coves around Playa Blanca or take a boat to Corralejo and cycle on another island.

  • All year round destination
  • Dramatic coastlines, famous local artists and the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya
  • Spectacular volcanic landscapes and fishing villages
  • Two optional rest days to relax on the beach or cycle

The Trip

  • Day 1: Arrive in Costa Teguise

Make your way from Arrecife airport to Costa Teguise and enjoy the beautiful beach.

  • Day 2: Costa Teguise - Haría 19/28 miles (31/45km)

Cycle inland and take the opportunity to visit Manrique’s famous works such as El Jardín de Cactus, Los Jameos del Agua, El Mirador del Río which form an integral part of the volcanic landscape. Today, you will also have the opportunity to visit the volcanic cave of La Cueva de los Verdes. Cycle through fishing villages before arriving in the picturesque village of Haría.

  • Day 3: Haría - Teguise 12/33 miles (18/52km)

Cycle away from Haría on a scenic road with views down to the coast. Ride through the wine-producing area of La Geria to finish in Teguise, the one-time capital of the island, with typical architecture.

  • Day 4: Teguise 31 miles (50km) or rest day

Today you can choose to relax and stay in Teguise or you can enjoy a loop cycle tour. The route will take you towards the beautiful beach of Famara with the spectacular backdrop of volcanic cliffs. After following the coast, you head across extensive lava fields and a lunar landscape back to San Bartolomé.

(Alternative 20km routes to Fundación César Manrique or Teguise available today).

  • Day 5: Teguise - Playa Blanca 35/42 miles (57/67km)

Todays cycle will take you towards Lanzarote's main attraction, the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. This is where Lanzarote’s volcanic nature is at its most spectacular. The eruptions of 1730 – 1736 buried around a quarter of the whole island, including several villages, and gave rise to the impressive lava and volcano landscape that we see today. From here you will cycle to the south of the island, stopping en route to visit the seaside volcanic crater of El Golfo before you reach the seaside village of Playa Blanca.

  • Day 6: Playa Blanca 20/43 miles (36/70km) or rest day

Playa Blanca sits at the very south of the island and looks across to Fuerteventura. Today can take a boat across to Corralejo and enjoy a visit or a ride on another island. Alternatively, you can enjoy a day in Playa Blanca and take the opportunity to visit the nearby coves and beaches of Papagayo, the best on the island and unspoilt by tourism.

  • Day 7: Playa Blanca - Arrecife 30 miles (47km)

Todays cycle will take you across the dramatic hills of Femés before heading to the wine country of La Geria.  Here, the unusual vineyard cultivation techniques have given rise to a fascinating landscape not to be seen anywhere else in the world, and producing some fine wines. You will then descend to the coast and  follow  a nice promenade from Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife.

  • Day 8: Depart from Arrecife

    Check out after breakfast.

In this anticlockwise tour of the island, there are stunning and varied inland and coastal volcanic landscapes. It's a windy island but the routes have been carefully crafted to minimize exposure to the prevailing winds. Also, the routes avoid the main commercial parts of resorts. All the food in our hotels and restaurants we visited was of high quality. Highly recommended.

This is a perfect holiday, being an island, you can choose what level of cycling you want to do. It is a fascinating island with several amazing places to visit so you can combine that with the cycling. We have done the holiday twice each time following slightly different routes and visiting different places of interest. I could happily do the same holiday again.
