Setting out from the astounding city of Segovia, it’s worth arriving early on day one to visit the Roman aqueduct, Romanesque churches and the soaring turrets of Alcázar castle. This leisurely cycle tour follows quiet country roads and off-road paths through a rural region that’s dotted with hilltop towns and rustic villages.

Ride past rolling hills with a backdrop of green mountains to reach Moorish castles, cobbled streets and ancient houses - the town square at Turegano is one of Spain’s prettiest, and the preserved medieval town of Pedraza is a highlight halfway through. Home to griffon vultures, golden eagles and peregrine falcons, the region’s natural landmarks are equally impressive, with healing spring waters, a dramatic gorge and crystal clear rivers some of the best bits - don’t forget to pack your swimming gear.
