Overview

What to expect

Ride along the less-visited Cantabrian & Asturian coast of northern Spain, where rich green countryside contrasts with the blue sea and golden beaches. This beautiful ride passes flower-filled villages and fishing harbours, with a backdrop of the dramatic Picos de Europa Mountains. Some stretches of the cycle route are more demanding than others, but you’ll have the option of three full rest days to relax on the beach and refuel in scenic seafood restaurants, try canoeing on the river or hike to spectacular gorges.

Riding through Asturias, you’ll descend through eucalyptus forests and cycle past rugged coves, following rolling meadows down to the sea. The region’s low key resorts and timeless towns are full of fascinating landmarks, from the historic bridges of San Vicente to the twisting streets of Llanes. The fine sands of Somo and the elegant city of Santander are enticing places to end your adventure.

  • Blue waters and golden beaches with a backdrop of dramatic mountains
  • Unspoiled fishing harbours and traditional beach resorts
  • Twisting lanes, beautiful bridges and seafood restaurants with a view
  • 7 or 5 nights of adventurous cycling with stunning scenery and three optional rest days

This region of Spain was lovely and majestic! The packet that was provided us was very thorough with excellent tips on the region (food, phrases, history, etc) as well as accurate directions and color-outlined maps. The daily mileage was just right, we could take several photos along the way and break at lovely villages and still make it to our destination by early afternoon. We loved the various lodging at Santillana Del Mar, San Vicente and Somo. All were lovely accommodations and special comforts, like amazing breakfasts, beautiful views and good locations.

Everything was fantastic, and low stress. We were able to enjoy our holiday without the worry of luggage transfer, and all of the Freedom Treks people were incredibly nice and helpful. Thanks!
