First Place - Peter & Frances Wilson

Judges' verdict: It's views like this that make seeing new destinations from the saddle so special! We had some excellent entries of Norway's naturally picturesque Lofoten Islands - but this one really stood out from the rest. A real 'jaw-dropper' that left the team incredibly jealous. We could stare at the scenery, the sun-draped mountains, the reflections in the water and the quaint houses all day, so we just couldn't look past it as our winner. Congratulations, Frances and Peter!

Frances said: "The photo was taken by my husband Peter Wilson on 31 July at 8.30pm. It is the view looking over Reine from the bridge above the town near the junction with the E10. It would take more than a couple of lines to tell you what we loved about the Lofoten Islands and the trip. The scenery was amazing, with the combination of jagged mountains, golden beaches and clear lakes against the blue sky making every moment a potential photo. The itinerary enabled us to see the best of the islands, with time to stay longer in places which interested us. The night at the world's most northerly golf course, the trip on the bicycle ferry, and Haukland beach were our best memories. As a sea swimmer, I was spoiled for choice - swimming every day, sometimes twice, in the warm water, finding it hard to believe that I was inside the Arctic Circle."

Second Place - Mike & Fiona Walsh

Slovenia's Castles, Lakes & Mountains Bike Tour, June 2025

Judges' verdict: The mountain backdrop behind the trees makes this photo from Fiona. It's like cycling into a postcard! We could all imagine ourselves in Slovenia, looking up from the saddle and thinking 'wow' at the scenery. Bonus points for an action shot, we always love seeing a bike in the photo.

Mike said:
"My wife, Fiona, is pleased that you liked her photo. It is of me on our second last day, cycling on a cycle path (former railway) towards Kranska Gora, with around 3-4 miles to go. Kranska Gora, a ski resort town, the hotel, and the surrounding mountains were all impressive. The overall holiday was very enjoyable with both mountain and agricultural areas, giving two enjoyable and challenging climbs, great scenery, good hotels and restaurants, friendly locals, good cycling infrastructure and some interesting history. We have recommended the holiday to a number of cycle club friends."

Judge's verdict: We just loved the high five! The emotion that comes with this photo makes it for us, and it's what our cycling holidays are all about - connecting with family and friends while travelling and seeing new places from the saddle. Not forgetting the beautiful backdrop, too. Excellent photo, Karla, and definitely a worthy third place.
